But can corporate blogging really deliver measurable return on investment for businesses? According to a 2005 Corporate Blogging Survey conducted by Backbone Media Inc., the answer is yes; corporate blogs are, in fact, living up to all the hype.
A number of potential benefits that corporate blogs can create were identified in the survey, which gathered information from bloggers at hundreds of companies. Among these benefits were increased word-of-mouth, buzz generated on- and off-line, improved search engine rankings, greater press coverage and higher lead generation.
"Corporate blogs are giving established companies and obscure brands alike the ability to connect with their audiences on a more personal level, build trust, collect valuable feedback and foster strengthened business relationships," writes John Cass, director of Internet marketing strategies for Backbone Media. "More importantly, these companies are enjoying tangible returns on their blogging investment in the form of increased sales, partnerships, business opportunities, press coverage and lead generation."
